Overview

Looking for adventure on your own schedule and can't make our group departures? This is your chance to take the wheel and explore the real Sri Lanka, one Tuk-Tuk at a time. This brand-new semi-supported private adventure lets you and your group (up to 5 Tuk-Tuks) set off whenever suits you — no fixed dates, no big convoys — just pure freedom, supported by our team behind the scenes. You’ll cruise from the lush hills of Kandalama to the wild beauty of Knuckles, through iconic tea country and vibrant Ella, before ending with a well-earned dose of comfort at Kithala Resort. Along the way, you'll take on daily surprise challenges using our app, meet locals, taste incredible food, and stay in stunning hand-picked spots that offer a mix of comfort and charm. This is a 5 day adventure that you can take year round, but we do recommend checking in with us if you are unsure when is a good date for you to go — especially if you're planning travel during the monsoon seasons. We can also arrange extra nights before or after your adventure, and help sort out airport transfers to make your trip seamless.

Our Tuk-Tuk Shorts are about new experiences, cultural immersion but mainly about having fun – the adventure type of fun. Where you have to work for it, get dirty but finish off indulging in a fresh drink and outrageously delicious food while laughing about the challenges of today. You will stay at our hand-picked 4/5* eco lodges, glamping tents and boutique hotels - from the scenic hills to the southern coast.

You will recieve daily challenges that include cultural quests, culniary missions and off-the-beaten-path photo hunts, all designed to deepen your journey and keep things playful. Questions you will be forced to ask yourself during the Adventure include: Who’s going to go and get a photo of that crocodile? Who’s going to get us invited to a local’s place for lunch? Who’s going to take one for the team in the chilli-eating challenge? What day is it? And where did I put my Imodium? One hell of an amazing time is guaranteed.

DAY 1

Arrival Day - Training

Meet, Train, and Tuk-Up Arrive by 10 AM at the start point: Amba Yaalu Kandalama, perched in the heart of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle. After a welcome coffee, it’s time for your Tuk-Tuk training session, including a safety briefing, driving practice, and app orientation. Once you’ve mastered the beast, spend the rest of the day relaxing or exploring nearby.

DAY 2

Kandalama to Knuckles

Your First Drive + Challenge On!

Gear up and hit the road — today's drive takes you through ancient roads, rural villages, and up into the dramatic Knuckles mountain range. Along the way, your app will drop your first surprise challenge!

DAY 3

Knuckles to Mandaramnuwara

Tea & Trails

After breakfast, hit the winding roads towards the cool tea country in Mandaramnuwara. Arrive at the Tea & Experience Factory, where you’ll dive into a unique factory-meets-stay experience. Don't forget to complete today’s challenge!

DAY 4

Mandaramnuwara to Ella

Downhill Drive to Hill Country's Heart

Take in misty morning views as you descend through forested valleys and terraced tea estates to reach the bohemian hill town of Ella. Today’s challenge will get you mingling with locals or capturing Sri Lanka’s most photogenic views.

  • Evening stay: Ella (hand-picked boutique hotel or guesthouse)

  • Meals included: Breakfast & Dinner

DAY 5

Ella to Tissamaharama

Waterfalls, Wildlife & Southern Heat

Make your way down to the southern plains, stopping at waterfalls and roadside eateries as you go. Today's challenge might involve spotting wildlife or trying something spicy.

  • Meals included: Breakfast & Dinner

DAY 6

Departure Day

End of the Road (but not the adventure)

After breakfast, your Tuk-Tuk journey officially ends. From here, we can arrange a transfer back to the airport or help you book a few extra days of beach time or cultural immersion nearby.

Why is it so amazing?

Short answer: come and find out for yourself. Long answer: it’s sort of like India, without the madness and crowds. It’s still mad, and there are still crowds, but not quite on the same scale. It’s also got a great cultural legacy from trade and immigration: Indian, Tamil, English, Portuguese, Dutch. Pretty much every seafaring culture has touched the island at some point, which means the food is seriously good. Like don’t even get us started.

In the unfortunate event of a breakdown

Tuk-Tuks are unique vehicles that require careful handling and maintenance. While our team works tirelessly to ensure the safety and reliability of our fleet, it´s important to note that Tuk-Tuks are delicate machines that can experience mechanical issues or breakdowns due to improper handling or poor road conditions. We take great pride in providing our customers with an authentic and adventurous travel experience, and part of that experience is accepting the risks and challenges that come with driving a Tuk-Tuk. In the event that a Tuk-Tuk does experience mechanical issues you will have a mechanic on call and, depending on the nature of the breakdown, it may be the responsibility of the driver to repair the vehicle at their own expense. We understand that this may be an inconvenience, but we believe it is a fair price to pay for the thrill and excitement of Tuk-Tuk travel. So, if you´re ready to embark on a one-of-a-kind adventure, just remember to drive carefully, follow our safety guidelines, and embrace the challenges that come with this unique mode of transportation. After all, it´s all part of the adventure!

Just a quick heads-up—if your adventure falls on a Sri Lankan public holiday, there may be restrictions on alcohol consumption in public places due to local festivities and religious observances. While this means bars and restaurants won’t be serving alcohol on those days, there will still be plenty to enjoy and eat and drink! This is just a small reminder that part of the adventure is embracing and respecting local cultures and traditions, and we appreciate your understanding.
